I suspect that I probably have readers who are both less linguistically challenged and less technically challenged than I am. Could one of them please tell me how to include Greek words in WordPress? I finally left out the Greek terms in brackets in Father Gabriel’s quotes in the last post. I’ve generally copied them from a Greek font in Word, and that seems to have sometimes worked in WordPress, but it’s been rather a hit and miss affair, and this time it was definitely miss. I’ve long thought that there must be a proper way to do this, and it’s probably about time to find out how!

Macrina,
Do you use Windows? If so, have you added the Greek language keyboard to your language/regional options? This would be better than a font, as what you write will actually be ‘in’ Greek characters, rather than Greek-looking English characters if you take my meaning.

SubDn Lucas, Yes, I do use Windows, and no, I haven’t added the Greek option. I’ll try it and see what happens. Many thanks.

BTW, there should be an option for ‘Greek Polytonic’ which will allow you to add more than just the acute accent.

That’s the best way to do it. Try to avoid accenting the characters, as well. The default font in your theme might not be able to handle it. Not all fonts include the full set of polytonic Greek characters, so even if you get them to appear in the editing window, once it posts, the font that displays your posts is different and so you’ll probably end up with some little boxes for the missing characters.
Palatino Linotype is a good Unicode font that includes all the polytonic Greek characters. If there’s a theme that uses that for posts, you would be able to have them all. Or use the <font=”Palatino Linotype”> text here </font> tagging. (I hope that comes out correctly!) Just write me if you have any more trouble.

Many thanks to both of you. It seems to be succesful except that I have yet to work out how to do accents. But I’ll have to wait until I have more time to play around with that…

It seems to have worked – thanks again for your help!
